Quinta Ruban is the most amber and intense whisky in the Glenmorangie range. Its structure is provided by 10 years of ageing in bourbon casks, extended by a further 2 years in ruby port casks. Its name derives naturally from this "finish" in port casks as the casks used come from the Portuguese "quintas", the port estates in the Douro valley. Moreover, "ribbon" is the translation of "ruby" in Gaelic.
The Quinta Ruban is a 14 year old single malt that has allowed the aromas to express themselves with even greater elegance.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Fruity, floral and aromatic. There is a hint of incense and a pleasant smell of sour orange. Waxy notes follow, with a hint of sandalwood and a slight accent of dark chocolate. A dash of water will open up the bouquet further, revealing notes of chocolate truffles, coconut, marshmallow and Turkish delight, as well as a subtle touch of oak.
Palate: Voluptuous and velvety. Aromas of fruit candy and sweet mandarin. More subtle notes of chocolate truffles and aromatic wood reveal a lingering sweetness. Deeper flavours of mint chocolate follow.
Finish: Long and lingering with dominant chocolate, mint and nutty notes before finishing on a tobacco note.
