Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or is a rich and spicy whisky with a unique Sauternes cask finish. Bill Lumsden was one of the pioneers in the use of wine casks in the maturation of his whiskies, notably with this edition which brilliantly bears his name. This mythical edition of the Glenmorangie range has been re-packaged for 2019 to highlight the special skill of finishing in Sauternes casks.
The main characteristic of this Nectar d'Or is its ageing in Sauternes casks. A beautiful tribute to these sweet wines, particularly renowned among French wines. This very special maturation allows the whisky to develop rich and spicy aromas.
Tasting notes:
Nose: both firm and smooth. Luscious notes of pineapple, banana and candied apricot supported by a remarkable bitterness highlight the maturation in Sauternes casks. Curry and cinnamon are followed by heady flowers.
Appearance: old gold with topaz highlights.
Palate: soft, silky. It is firmer than the nose would suggest, which gives it a lot of drive and freshness. The mid-palate recaptures the unctuousness sensed on the nose. Slightly salty, it continues on toasted coffee, toffee, gingerbread and peppermint.
Finish: oily, savoury. Imbued with the acidic character of passion fruit and lemon, it is also marked by notes of beeswax and acacia honey. The aftertaste naturally reveals the sweet bitterness of malted barley.
