The refrigerator thermal protector is an electrical safety device that protects the motor from excessive current consumption and operating temperatures by interrupting the power supply to the motor.
The thermal protector, or circuit breaker, is placed in the motor's power supply terminal box. All current drawn by the refrigerator motor passes through a filament inside the protector.
If the current value is excessive, the filament will heat up quickly and cause the deformation of a bimetallic contact which will interrupt the power supply to the motor. The bimetal contact may also react to too high a temperature of the refrigerator compressor.
It is equipped with an AVS function that disconnects the power to your appliance if the mains exceeds the acceptable level. It will then automatically reconnect only after the power has returned to acceptable limits after a 90 second delay.
This will ensure that the device is not repeatedly switched off during fluctuations, nor is it subject to the massive power surge normally experienced when power returns after outages.
